The W. R. Banks Library at Prairie View A&M University was built in 1945 as the campus library and named for Willette Rutherford Banks, the school's longtime principal. Its construction was aided by funding from the General Education Board, the philanthropy established by John D. Rockefeller Sr. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999 as part of the university's historic and architectural resources.
