Building 1040 is one of seven Naval Air Station Chase Field structures individually listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Formed in 1943 near Beeville and named for aviator Lt. Commander Nathan Brown Chase, the station conducted flight training—including jet-aircraft training from 1954 onward—until it was decommissioned in 1993 and converted into the Chase Field Industrial Complex.
