Building 1009 is one of seven Naval Air Station Chase Field structures individually listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Chase Field, near Beeville, opened as a naval auxiliary airfield in 1943, was purchased by the Navy in 1952 during the Korean War, and was elevated to full naval air station status in 1968. The base trained generations of jet aviators until it was decommissioned in 1993 and redeveloped as an industrial complex.
