History

Hillsboro's Renaissance Revival post office was built between 1912 and 1915 under the direction of Supervising Architect of the Treasury James Knox Taylor, and is distinguished by a tiled roof, an arched entrance arcade, and elaborate terra-cotta and stone detailing. It served as the city post office until 1967, after which it was adapted for use as the public library. The building was recorded as a Texas Historic Landmark in 1982 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
