History

With a cornerstone dated 1876, the Old Rock Saloon is the oldest commercial building standing in Hillsboro and the only surviving limestone structure in its central business district. Once owned by former mayor J. E. Ballard, it held a gambling hall upstairs and a cockfighting pit at the rear, and it was the first building restored under the Texas Main Street Program. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
