History

In 1887 the Oblate Fathers built a convent in Roma for the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word, who taught in the town's public schools until they were withdrawn in 1897 after being directed not to wear their religious dress in the classroom. The building is part of the Roma Historic District overlooking the Rio Grande.
