Erected in 1897 and designed by Houston architect Frank E. Rue in a Victorian style with Gothic Revival details, this two-story brick building at 120 East Pilar Street was reputedly the first fireproof building in Nacogdoches. It served as the land office of county surveyor Charles Hoya (1848-1926) and remains one of the town's best-preserved structures. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1992.
