History

This marker near Lincoln commemorates the King's Highway, also called El Camino Real or the Old San Antonio Road, the primary overland route of Spanish colonization through Texas. Between 1915 and 1918 the State of Texas and the Daughters of the American Revolution placed a series of pink granite markers roughly every five miles along the historic road. The route carried Spanish missionaries, soldiers, and settlers for well over a century.
