This Lee County marker near Giddings marks the King's Highway, known as El Camino Real and the Old San Antonio Road, the main Spanish colonial route linking the missions of Texas with Louisiana and Mexico. In 1915 the Texas legislature appropriated funds to survey the road, and from 1915 to 1918 the state and the Daughters of the American Revolution set granite markers along its length at about five-mile intervals.
