This marker at Lincoln in Lee County stands along the historic King's Highway, or Old San Antonio Road, the Spanish colonial route that ran from the Rio Grande to the Sabine River and served as the principal path for settlers entering Texas. The road followed older Indian and buffalo trails and was formally surveyed and marked in the 1910s. Between 1915 and 1918 the DAR and the State of Texas placed 123 pink granite markers about every five miles along its length.
