Francis Menefee White was an early public official of Jackson County, appointed county commissioner in 1837 and elected justice of the peace in the following years. He attended the Convention of 1845 that framed Texas statehood and represented Jackson County in several early state legislatures, later serving as commissioner of the General Land Office from 1857 to 1862. He died in 1897 and is remembered among the county's founding settlers.
