History

Built in 1893 as Hill County's third jail, this brick-and-limestone structure was designed by W. C. Dodson, architect of the county courthouse, with living quarters for the sheriff in front and steel-clad cells behind. Prisoners were held here until 1983, when the building became the Cell Block Museum. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1981.
