History

Auto mechanic Fred O. Grimes, a promoter of paved Texas highways, built this garage at 110 North Waco Street in 1914 after an earlier 1906 venture failed for lack of automobiles in the county. Equipped with fourteen gas pumps, a repair shop, and a tire store, it was nicknamed 'the most famous garage in the world' and later became the Texas Through Time fossil museum. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.
