History

The United States Courthouse at 511 East San Antonio Avenue in El Paso was completed in 1936 to serve the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas after the city outgrew its earlier federal buildings. Designed by architects Percy McGhee, Guy L. Frazer, and Thomas P. Lippincott under the U.S. Treasury's Office of the Supervising Architect, it blends Neoclassical Revival composition with Art Deco detailing typical of 1930s federal work. The courthouse was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001.
