History
The Richard Caples Building at San Antonio Avenue and Mesa Street in downtown El Paso was designed by Henry C. Trost for former mayor Richard Caples and completed in 1909, reputedly the city's first reinforced-concrete building. Originally five stories, it gained two more floors in 1915-1916, also to Trost's design. During the Mexican Revolution its upper floors served as a headquarters for Francisco I. Madero's provisional government, and conspirators reportedly met there to plan the 1911 assault on Ciudad Juarez. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as part of the Trost commercial-structures group.
