The Wallace Pratt Lodge, which Pratt called the Stone Cabin, was built in 1931-32 in McKittrick Canyon for pioneering petroleum geologist Wallace E. Pratt, designed by noted Houston architect John F. Staub and constructed of local limestone and heart pine. Pratt, a Humble Oil executive, had fallen in love with the canyon and eventually donated more than 5,600 acres that formed the core of Guadalupe Mountains National Park. The lodge was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975.
