Designed in the Gothic Revival style by Father Peter Yves Keralum and served by the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate, it survived hurricanes and the Civil War and retains 29 original stained-glass windows and its original wooden pews. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980 and is the cathedral church of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Brownsville.
