St. Anthony's parish was founded in 1896 to serve about one hundred Sicilian immigrant families, many from Corleone and Poggioreale, who had settled in the Brazos Valley. After fire destroyed the first church in 1926, the present Romanesque Revival building at 306 S. Parker was constructed in 1927. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987.
