History
The Magoffin Home is a historic adobe residence in El Paso, Texas, built in 1875 by pioneer Joseph Magoffin and lived in by members of his family for 109 years. The house combines local adobe construction with Greek Revival details in what is known as the Territorial style, with thick adobe walls, 19 rooms, eight fireplaces, and 14-foot ceilings. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1971, and the surrounding area was declared the Magoffin Historic District in 1985. Now the Magoffin Home State Historic Site, it is jointly owned by the City of El Paso and the State of Texas and has been operated by the Texas Historical Commission since 2007, when authority was transferred from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.
