The Bank of Menard was built in 1903 of native limestone to give area settlers a safe place for their money, which they had previously kept in merchants' safes or carried on long, robber-prone rides to distant banks. The handsome two-story building features a chamfered corner entrance, rock-faced stone and a pressed-metal cornice, and it stands at San Saba Avenue in downtown Menard as a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark.
