This Greek Revival mansion was built in 1868 by Colonel William Aldridge Fort, a wealthy planter and merchant who came to the Waco area from Alabama in 1854. Constructed of locally made pink brick with fluted Ionic columns, it reflected Fort's prominence as a founder of Waco National Bank and the owner of the city's first transit line. The Junior League of Waco purchased and restored the home in 1956, and it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1970.
