History

The Old McCulloch County Jail in Brady is a three-story red-brick Richardsonian Romanesque building erected in 1910 by the Southern Structural Steel Co. of San Antonio, with living quarters on the first floor and cells above. It replaced an 1878 jail and served until 1974, when the nonprofit Heart of Texas Historical Museum bought it for $5 and converted it into a museum. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975.
