History

The Caroline Gilbert Hinchee House at 1814 Park Street in Beaumont was built in 1906 to designs by local architect Henry C. Mauer, an outstanding example of blended Queen Anne and Classical Revival styles. Caroline Gilbert Hinchee, from a prominent Southeast Texas lumber and oil family, lived there until her death in 1913, and the home included one of Beaumont's earliest residential elevators. It is listed on the National Register and is a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark; the Beaumont Preservation Society acquired it in 2018.
