History

Kate McCommis, daughter of Jim and Della Browning McCommis, was born in February 1884 as the first recorded birth in Garza County. She lived only a single day, making her also the county's first recorded death. Her marker near Post commemorates this poignant milestone in the county's earliest settlement.
