The Anson Mills Building at 303 North Oregon Street in downtown El Paso was built in 1910-1911 for pioneer surveyor and city founder Anson Mills, who hired local architect Henry C. Trost to design it. At twelve stories and about 145 feet it was the tallest building in El Paso when completed, and it is often cited as one of the earliest reinforced-concrete-frame skyscrapers in the United States, its strong verticality recalling the Chicago School work of Louis Sullivan. The building stands on the site of the 1832 Ponce de Leon ranch and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
