Carved limestone balustrades and pediments decorate the roofline, along with four corner entry pavilions topped by imposing cupolas and a central octagonal clocktower capped with an ornamental copper finial.

The Denton County Courthouse-on-the-Square in Denton was completed in 1896 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In addition to county offices, it houses the Courthouse-on-the-Square Museum, and its grounds are the final resting place of John B. Denton, the county's and city's namesake. A 1918 Confederate monument that stood on the grounds was removed in 2020.
