History

The Denton County Courthouse-on-the-Square was completed in 1896 to designs by prominent Central Texas architect W. C. Dodson, blending Romanesque Revival and Second Empire styles around a high central tower. Built for about $100,000, it combines Denton limestone, Austin-area pink granite, and Pecos and Mineral Wells sandstone. Restored and rededicated in 2004, it now houses the Courthouse-on-the-Square Museum and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
