The Celaya-Creager House at 441 E. Washington Street is one of Brownsville's grandest turn-of-the-century residences, completed in 1912 for Jose and Serafina Fernandez Celaya to the design of architect M. E. Tracy. Built of yellow brick in a Classical/Colonial style, it features wrap-around porches, a curved two-story Ionic portico, and a rooftop widow's walk. In 1924 it became the home of Rentfro Banton Creager, one of South Texas's most politically active figures, and it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988.
