The Samuel Wallace Brooks House was designed and built in 1888 by Samuel W. Brooks (1829-1903), Brownsville's foremost architect of the late nineteenth century, as his own residence. An I-plan wood-frame house with a decorative first-floor veranda and second-floor balcony, it is believed to be the last such wood-frame home still standing in the city. The house was relocated several times before being restored at its present site, now a law office, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
