History

Peach Point was the plantation home of James Franklin Perry and his wife Emily Austin Bryan Perry, sister of Stephen F. Austin, who settled the Brazos River site in December 1832 after buying it from Austin. Named for the wild peach trees growing there, it operated as a forced-labor farm producing cotton and sugar cane, and Austin regarded it as his only true home in Texas. After Austin died in December 1836 his body was brought here for burial in the family cemetery before being reinterred at the State Cemetery in Austin in 1910.
