Established about 1829 as part of the Peach Point Plantation, home of Stephen F. Austin's sister Emily Austin Perry, Gulf Prairie Cemetery in Brazoria County was the first resting place of Stephen F. Austin after his death in 1836, until his remains were moved to Austin in 1910. Also called the Peach Point or Gulf Prairie Presbyterian Cemetery, the ground was conveyed to the Presbyterian Church by the Perry family in 1890.
