History

The current Brazoria County Courthouse in Angleton was completed in 1940 to designs by architect Lamar Q. Cato, after a 1932 storm damaged the county's 1897 courthouse. Built in the Moderne style, the five-story building is faced in fossilized Texas limestone above a base of Texas granite, with steel windows in vertical channels separated by brushed-aluminum spandrels and a carved ornamental frieze. It remains the seat of Brazoria County government.
