History

The J. H. Bekken House stands northwest of Clifton in the Norse Historic District of Bosque County, the heart of the largest Norwegian settlement in the American Southwest. Beginning in 1854, thousands of Norwegian immigrants settled a triangular area extending some eighteen miles from Clifton toward Cranfills Gap. The Bekken House was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on July 22, 1983, as one of the farmsteads documented in the 'Norwegian Settlement of Bosque County' thematic nomination.
