History

The Haralson House, also called the Bastian-Haralson House, stands at 1006 Chestnut Street in Bastrop and was built for Ed Bastian, a tin and hardware merchant and a director of the Bastrop Turn Verein in the 1870s. The Victorian frame house was built of heart pine from J. S. Wilbarger's local lumberyard, assembled with square iron nails and corner iron braces, and trimmed with jigsaw 'gingerbread' woodwork. It received a Texas historical marker in 1963 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
