Doan's Adobe House near Odell in Wilbarger County was built about 1880-1881 by Corwin F. Doan and is one of very few adobe buildings in North Texas. It is the sole surviving structure of Doan's Crossing, a frontier town on the Great Western (Western) Cattle Trail from central Texas to Dodge City, Kansas, that had several hundred residents in 1885; from his store there, Doan supplied cowboys with mail and goods, the last chance before Indian Territory. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979 and a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark, the site still hosts a May Day picnic that has continued since 1884.
