Marker Inscription

Designed in Spanish Colonial Revival style, finished in stucco and topped with Spanish tile roofs. The three-story structure features a primary facade framed by two square, hip-roofed towers. Details include rope molding surrounding an arched entry with full fanlight and repetitive arched applied stucco detail.

History

The Terrell County Courthouse in Sanderson was built in 1906-1907 to a design by architect William M. Martin of Comanche, a two-story cream-stucco building with corner towers and a red-tiled hipped roof, described as Mediterranean or Spanish Colonial Revival in style. It was enlarged on the north side in 1930 by San Antonio architect Henry T. Phelps and remodeled again in 1983.
