Known as 'Myrtle-Vale,' the Col. John Dewberry House is a rare surviving two-story antebellum Greek Revival residence in Smith County, begun in 1852 as headquarters of Dewberry's large cotton plantation. John Dewberry, a War of 1812 veteran, came to Texas in 1835 and served on the commission that located the county seat after Smith County was created in 1846; the home remained in his family until 1908. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places (reference number 71000963) and is a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark.
