History

Camp Creek Cemetery in Robertson County dates to 1859, when Ashbel Smith, a Connecticut-born physician and prominent Texas leader, donated ten acres for the burial ground. A log cabin on the northwest corner served as a community school and church, and the oldest marked grave is that of Lucy M. Turner (1824-1864). Local lore records that Ann Marjorie McMillan was killed near here in 1869 when a panther attacked her buggy horse while crossing Camp Creek.
