Constructed of limestone with sheet metal details in the Second Empire style. The building features adouble-height arched window openings at the second floor, a central bay with a dentiled pediment supporting an ornamental clocktower and corner bays with dormers on a mansard roof.

History

The Robertson County Courthouse in Franklin is a three-story cut-stone building designed by Austin architect Frederick Ernst Ruffini and built in the Second Empire style in the early 1880s, with exterior walls of Austin limestone. Its signature mansard roof was removed in 1924 and later restored. The courthouse (with the associated jail) was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977.
