This private adobe fort near the head of Cienega Creek about six miles east of Shafter was built between 1855 and 1857 by Milton Faver, Presidio County's first Anglo-American rancher. Built for defense, it had a single story, a flat roof, twenty-foot walls three to four feet thick, and two square towers at diagonal corners, with a single gated entrance. Fed by nearby Cienega Spring, the self-sufficient fort served as a stronghold during raids and an outpost for army patrols from Fort Davis. After Faver's death in 1889 the property passed to his son Juan and later to the Pool family.
