History

The Brown-Dorsey House in Midland was built in 1899 for rancher and merchant Z. Taylor Brown, who had moved his family to Midland in 1884, and is believed to be the oldest surviving dwelling in the city. The Late Victorian house features carved wood detailing, a round art-glass window in the entry hall, eleven-foot ceilings and three fireplaces sharing a single chimney; it passed to the Browns' daughter Sara Brown Dorsey and stayed in the family until 1969. It was recorded as a Texas Historic Landmark in 1965 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.
