St. Paul's grew from Episcopalians who began meeting in Waco homes and the rented Odd Fellows Hall in the 1860s and organized as a parish under the first bishop of Texas, Alexander Gregg. The present church at North Fifth Street and Columbus Avenue was completed in June 1879 at a cost of about $14,500.
