History

David Smith Kornegay (1810-1856) fought at the Battle of San Jacinto in 1836 and later survived the 1842 Dawson Massacre near San Antonio. Captured by Mexican forces, he was imprisoned at Perote Castle before escaping in 1843. He is buried in Bosqueville Cemetery near Waco, where this 1936 centennial marker stands.
