History

After Lampasas County was created in 1856, county business was handled in a variety of buildings until the first courthouse was completed by 1871, only to be destroyed by arson on Christmas Eve that year, taking the county records with it. The present Second Empire-style courthouse, designed by W. C. Dodson, was completed in 1884 and was recorded as a Texas Historic Landmark in 1965.
