The Fort Richardson Hotel was built in 1899 by H. J. Hensley and L. A. Wilson on the site of the earlier Wichita House at the southwest corner of the Jacksboro courthouse square. Its construction reflected Jacksboro's growth as the county's trade center, a rise that followed the 1868 establishment of nearby Fort Richardson. A state marker was placed in 1967.
