History

John Walling and his brothers Jesse and Thomas came to Texas and took the oath of allegiance at Nacogdoches in January 1836, joining the Texas Revolution. John fought at San Jacinto in Captain Hayden Arnold's company and received a donation certificate for 640 acres. He later settled near Whitney in Hill County and was buried in the old Walling Bend cemetery southwest of the town.
