History

The Faulk and Gauntt Building at 217 N. Prairieville Street in Athens was built in 1896 and is regarded as an excellent example of late Victorian commercial architecture, one of the few Athens buildings surviving intact from the town's prosperous railroad era. Charles Hawn is credited with constructing the building, whose ownership history involves several pioneer families of the community. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980 and a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark, it has served many uses over the years and now houses the Henderson County Historical Museum.
