This marker notes a home built in the 1850s by Edward Burleson, Jr., son of the prominent Texas Revolution general and Republic vice president Edward Burleson. The elder Burleson had helped survey and lay out San Marcos in 1847 and settled his family in the San Marcos River valley, and the younger Burleson raised his own homestead nearby. The site is one of more than 150 historical markers in Hays County.
