History

The J. G. Barbee House marks the 1856 beginning of the settlement that grew into Hico, on Honey Creek. J. G. Barbee was among the earliest families to locate in the area, alongside settlers such as the Fullers, Isaac Steen and the Malones. The original townsite later shifted, and the marked home commemorates one of Hico's founding families.
