History

The Frank Taylor Rembert and Kate Womack House in Longview began as a Queen Anne cottage built between about 1877 and 1879 on a lot the couple bought after moving to town. Frank Rembert, a Mississippi native who came to Texas in 1872, became a leading Longview merchant, banker and investor and served as mayor from 1896 to 1898; after visiting the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago he remodeled the home from Queen Anne toward a European Neo-Classical style. The house, which stayed in the family through his nephew John Womack Harrison, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2011.
